The missing dollar paradox
I have uploaded some songs on the right ----> for you guys to chill if your work/studies becomes too overwhelming. Visit this site if you r free too http://www.personalitytest.net/funtest/stress.htm (courtesy of ngai's mail). These tests are just for fun ya, dun take them seriously. Well well, i am burnt out when it is not even the reading week. i din study a lot, but i just cannot concentrate... going to slack tonight. My tfwa friend Joyce said i should be in smu rather then in nus. Its a mistake on my part really that i am in nus... oh well... better days ahead.. (or so i hope).. I so badly want to skate... shall go after my last paper on the 5th of dec.
Anyway, heard of the missing dollar paradox? Here it goes..
Three guests decide to stay the night at a lodge whose rate they are initially told is $30 per night. However, after the guests have each paid $10 and gone to their room, the proprietor discovers that the correct rate should actually be $25. As a result, he gives the bellboy the $5 that was overpaid, together with instructions to return it to the guests. Upon consideration of the fact that $5 will be problematic to split three ways, the bellboy decides to pocket $2 and return $1 each, or a total of $3, to the guests. Upon doing so, the guests have now each paid a total of $9 for the room, for a total of $27, and the bellboy has retained $2. So where has the remaining $1 from the initial $30 paid by the guests gone?!
You have heard or read this before right? Try solving it for yourself. I'd thought of 2 methods. One from debit/credit. The other one is using material balance (for chem eng friends)Have fun... ^^

Simple maths not so simple
While waiting for the results of my simulation for the stats project.. i stoned...
and when i stone my mind will starts to think about really useless stuffs..
1/3 + 2/3 = 1
Is it really true....
Consider this:
1/3 = 0.33333333333333333333333333333333333333333 tend to infinity
& 2/3 = 0.66666666666666666666666666666666666666666 tend to infinity
Now, when u add 0.3333333333333333333 to 0.6666666666666666666 the answer shd be 0.99999999999-to infinity and not 1 whole. only when u add 0.0000000000000000000000000000000-infinity-01 to it would the answer be 1.0.
Interesting right, or do u think its useless stuffs.. haha... i will need to go ask my primary school teacher or maths major friend on this matter... hmm.. a bit bo liao.. hah

Maths Questions
this is only the 3rd of nov but some friends has already posted like 6-7 times. Tai li hai le, not to be outdone, i decided to post again. Pardon my previous post, it was long and the english is oh well, you know... If you are contemplating on what to do for your master's thesis, final year projects or even ur PhD thesis why not consider this... read: http://www.pubmedcentral.nih.gov/articlerender.fcgi?artid=1761150
On a differnet note, what is with the PSLE maths questions anyway?.. look at the questions in uni..are we complaining? haha.. yaya cannot compare.. my friend decided to come up with some questions which he said he will submit it to the examination board for next year's paper:
1) Container A has 5 litres of water, John pours 3 litre of water into container B which is initially empty. After which, John pours 2 litres of water from container B into Container C which contains 4 litres of water initially. As the containers are placed outdoor, they are subjected to the elements. Not long after, it begins to rain.. Rain falls for 10 hours at 3Litres/hour into the containers. How many containers are there?
2) John was shopping when he was robbed. The robber ran for 30 meters and John pulls out his hand gun and fires (time, t= 0). The bullet travels at 100meters/s and the robber runs at 10meters/s. Air resistance increases as the bullet accelerates thus slowing it down at 1meter/s. At time t=4s, the robber grabs a bicycle and pedels at 50meters/s How many letters are there in John's name?
3) MCQ: John was walking home from school and he decided to buy 183 apples at NTUC, not long after Mary came in and bought 999 apples. Peter then came into the store and bought 43 apples. They placed all the apples into a van and went home together. 2 days later, 4/5 of the apples rotted, none was consumed. How many types of fruits are there?
a)one
b)two
c)three
d)None of the above.

The average person is statistically 'mean' ..
now i know what the Monte Carlo approach in stats meant, it is a sub set of the stochastic approach which i have used so frequently... lotsa dots...
Anyways, i met my sispec bunk mates when i was going home yesterday. It was great to meet someone from those tough army days. Though the days were tough but we had so much fun firing all the weapons, from light anti tank weapon, gernades, M203, different types of mines, TNT, automatic rifles and machine guns. We were all so bonded then, sharing stories at night, doing guard duty togehter, sabo-ing each other by pulling each other outta bed at 2-3am and put all sort of things (like cameo cream, insect repellent shampoo, aftershave, deodorant and chocolate) all over the person's body.. doing all these without too much laughing that will wake up our sergeants. haha.. The countless nights we spent in the forest training, feeding mosquitoes and ambushing fellow platoon mates in the early morning. How we always felt asleep during ambush missions and let the 'enemy' walk pass us without us noticing and get punished in the end. Diggin trenches so deep that we could stand in them with only our head exposed. Speaking about trench diggin, it is a really frustrating event, it just depends on your luck. If your spot is filled with soft soil and sand, u can finish diggin in a few hours. However, if u see sparks flying when ur spade hits the ground then u know u r died.. u can dig 4 12 hours and still gets no where with those rocks. But the platoon will all come to help dig. Remember the times where all the stupid things happen too, like how a platoon mate melt his boots because he felt asleep with his boot ontop of his candle in the forest. How another platoon mate always went mad when we encounter 3 full days of heavy rain when we were out living in the forest. Everyone got flu after that. Oh well, my advanced section leader course was cut short due to an accident, we were running (pitch dark in the forest, you cant even see your hand when u place it in front of you) when i felt into a trench dug up earlier by us. Sprain and hurt both my knees as well as my right ankle, that trench belongs to the tallest man in our company... that lucky.. was extremely sad when i was put out of course by the medical officer cos these mates were with me since my basic military training days and i wanna graduate with them.. only one exercise in taiwan was all that separates me from completing the training. Nonthesless, it was them that made my days remaining in sispec so much easier. As i live on the 4th floor, they have to help me up and down every single day. oh how i miss those days .. but not the botak hair of cos..
