So scientists developed a pen that worked in zero gravity, upside down, under water, on practically any surface including crystal & in temperatures ranging from below freezing to more than 300 degrees Celsius. It took the boffins a decade and US$ 12m. As for the Russians - well, they solved the problem faster & cheaper: they just used a pencil.
