stupid questions, stupid answers
now, which is worst? stupid questions or stupid answers? how about encountering both on a same day?
well u see, a question may sound stupid to a person but not to another.
see the thing is, some questions maybe as harmless as asking things like "does FYP sucks?" *FOR SURE IT DOES!! (though i really dont mind ppl asking me that but i think it can labeled as a stupid question using some others standard) to totally dumb ass question like "how do twins tell themselves apart?, "can u drown a fish?"
there is no doubting that asking simple question may lead to the discovery of new things. at times it could even enhance ur knowledge on a certain subject - fundamentally speaking. questions like "are we made of atoms or cells?" falls into the catogory. i believe that when someone asks a question that challenges the norm, for example "is removing energy the only way to create ice?", it helps to bring some form of creative thinking into play. maybe a poor example but u get the idea. some stupid questions can be higly entertaining at times too
the definition of a stupid question is however, highly subjective. But still, there are those that are totally jack ass and universally accepted as downright stupid. Some accquaintance asked me a truly damn ass question today. Its so stupid that i could have fainted and concuss for months, to think he is nice enough to complete the night with a stupid answer, Kudos to him..

Managerial Accounting
He told us to focus on a few topics (investment centres and variances) then proceed to warn us not to spot questions or study selectively (hmm...?). So I spent a day or two trying to figure out everything about the topics that he told us to focus on. Then on the day itself, zero questions on the above mentioned topics were set. Who would have thought that he would set two questions from the mid term for the finals since it was tested already? Damn... my brain malfunctioned for 10 minutes when i saw the questions. We were always taught to do A->B->C, this time round we are suppose to work backwards C->B->A. Great.. and did i mentioned that the test was at 9am? oh and did i mentioned that i did not do a single tutorial for this module? LOL Well, one more to go and after which i will be a full time FYP-ing student which is due on e 31st of December.. sem 7 just got extended.

i think i have turned in too early (like at 1 to 2 am?) these days, 早睡早起,所以身体很好, 吃得也很好. I have put on weight, damn. i have practically given my pacs an extra layer of clothing in preparation of the cooler months ahead. So what's left of them? last check , they are still there...only when i suck it in and 'cake' of cos. I got a call up for remedial training... how embarassing. A few years back, i was still wondering how can one fail ippt if u do sports, well, it is happening to me now.. you see the sports that i am doing now are, well, not so strenous , one of them simply requires me to stand in the field and pull some strings. The other one requires me to engage in some vertical displacements along with some pulley actions. These are of cos not the type of hardcore sports that i do previously when my ligaments (esp. knee) were still young and flexible.
Good news: i have only 2 finals this semester
Bad news, both papers start at 9am. that's my breakfast time..hmm.. and one of them is in MPSH 5.. great...

i think i am a freak. i've finished reading 10 chapters and completed about 12 tutorials (last year's and this year's) for managerial accounting today. darn it... sometimes i scare even myself. Time to watch some simpsons, or maybe soccer, or maybe try out the new game, Spore, that my sister had gotten..hmm...

Last friday at around 545pm, i was making my way from engin to biz... As i strolled along the corridors and walkways of engineering i was saying hi and hi and more hi-s to my fellow engineering friends, all rushing their assignments, projects and fyps. However, as i slowly made the transition from engin to biz, the crowd grew thinner and there were more empty benches than any other places in school that i have ever seen. Where the hell are the biz students, shdnt there be plenty of assignments and projects due on the last week? Or have most of them already completed theirs? I wonder...
i like to walk from engin to biz, not the other way round.

Lego
Playing with blocks is my favourite past time. I match them together and colour them as i wish. I literally play with them by clicking on the 'play' button. I am not kidding, they can do lotsa cool when you 'play' them. They can even sing when you command them to. That's how 厉害 they are. I am constructing something uber cool using these blocks. Although they do not topple over, they are a major pain in the arse. No they are not lego blocks, they are simulink blocks.. damn.. life was indeed easier when i was young... if a child ever tells you that he/she is gonna build a 'pancreas' using lego blocks, he/she needs some serious counselling... no wait, it will be better if you can introduce him to me, i will help him build his 'pancreas' and he can build mine. haha

When Nasa began to launch astronauts into space, it found out that pens don't work in zero gravity - ink doesn't flow down to the writing surface. So scientists developed a pen that worked in zero gravity, upside down, under water, on practically any surface including crystal & in temperatures ranging from below freezing to more than 300 degrees Celsius. It took the boffins a decade and US$ 12m. As for the Russians - well, they solved the problem faster & cheaper: they just used a pencil.
interesting? well, which is why before you put ur time and effort into something, it is always good to take a step back, reframe the situation and re-analyse things once again before taking the plunge. Easier say than done perhaps

Old ppl likes to lament, “when I was young, things were tougher.” I no longer believe that sentence entirely, for I say, ” When I was young, things were easier.” Relatively speaking i have a whole lot 'more time' as well when i was younger, so much so that i have to kill them indiscriminately. At present, i am beginning to regret my past actions. i might even have to pay for it. It must be karma i tell you, if not where has all my time gone to? You might ask,if i dun have much time to kill, so y am i here typing these nonsense then? well to keep my sanity in check of cos.
At this moment in time, i really do not need questions such as:
"If humans evolved from monkeys/apes, why are they still here?" and
"Can one cry underwater?"
because if you ask me these sort of questions, i will start to think and it could drag on for hours. If you do not know this, let me educate you, this very action is call 'time killing'. I really do not need any more bad karma at present. Nonetheless, these questions and any form of 废话-s are greatly welcomed. i still need to keep my sanity. but i will be gathering more bad karma as a result.. however i really needa keep my sanity... hmm.. what a difficult choice to make. See..? things were indeed easier when we were young.

Ahead of the Curve: 2 years at Harvard Business School by Philip Delves.
This non-friction title was written by the author whom went to Harvard Business School (HBS) to study for his MBA. He doesnt have a goal here, unlike his peers, to enter the dog-eat-dog world out there in the corporate jungle. (just give him the benefit of doubt) The author studied Latin and Greek literature, history and philosophy, but knew nothing about business. Business people he thought, were wine-swilling, golf-playing and predictable slaves to money. By the time he finished his MBA, his understanding of business was considerably deepened, but his opinion of the business world and its players was not much different.
He admits that HBS does succeed in its mission of transforming students into business leaders. But he views it as failing them in almost every other way, he calls HBS a 'factory for unhappy people.' He labels his classmates as people of modest talents but with oversized ambition. Boastful, insecure and at times charming, they were destined for great things and careers that required them to sacrifice family and friends for the success they felt they so richly deserved. An intriguing insight provided by the author whom is that 'little' bit outta the norm; perhaps it was due to his education background that sets him apart from the rest of his peers at Harvard which allows him to see things that these people do not or failed to notice. Anyway, do you have goals or objectives? I have one now haha (read top). I guess we all have. However, do babies have goals? They cant set goals that's for sure, but does that means that they do not have goals or objectives? (remove the thought that goals exist only because ppl set them alright)I was pondering over it yesterday with some friends... in the end, it was concluded, babies have goals too. Though they might not know it or have set it, but it is in their subconscious anyway. You see, what do babies do all day besides sleep? Whenever they are not sleeping, they are eating (most of the time). Also, when babies cry, what do u do most of the times to shut him/her up? You stuck a bottle of milk into his/her mouth right? Isnt that obvious? Their objective is to 长大. haha.. u cant be feeding for most of your waking hours unless u r determined to undergo some immense cells multiplication right?. Otherwise, it doesnt seems right... no reasonable person will eats for all of his/her waking moment. Yup, so they do just that because that is their ultimate goal in life at that moment in time =)

Its the holidays, lets do FYP... Back to school, go Bata buy shoes
I want to finish my FYP 2 weeks before the deadline, or at least a week, so i can travel overseas. That said, i need to stop recommending stuffs to the professors who will then stop encouraging me to 'explore' further. My friend said (knowing my working style) with this 'take-home' project i will bound to work on it whenever i can. man is he right.. However, 'whenever-i-can' doesnt occur frequently due to other commitments and even when 'whenever-i-can' does arrive, i might not have the mood to work on it. You know there is this lastly invention or craze call Facebook? oh you heard about it already?! i am sorry... i am a laggard (by about a year). hmm.. nvm, u understand what i am talking about dont u.. some applications are sooo #$@@%-ing interesting... well well, 'whenever-i-can' has arrived (cant tell?), i better go get acquainted with some codes and blocks.

Such is life
This week hasn't been the most pleasant of weeks. No not because of the fyp or friends; and definitely not due to stock market or business either, these are too trivial in comparison. My family hasnt been in the pick of health lately. My grandma was diagnosed with suspected Parkinson but is ok now after some treatment. My shu gong just underwent an operation this Tuesday to treat tongue and lymph nodes cancer. went 2 visit him today, i was close to him when i was young. he taught me chinese chess. Almost cant help it when i see the scars on his mouth and shoulder and the tubes sticking out of him. damn it man.. really..

Dear prof Laksh
I am sorry for not paying attention in class during the module CN2108 and i apologize for spending only 5 days or so to study for the final examination on Matlab codes. You have taught us well and many of us have went on to become well-versed in the Matlab language. However, sadly, i am not one of them. so, could u please give me a one-to-one refresher course this coming semester? i have free days on mondays, wednesdays and thursdays but would prefer sectional teachings to be held from 12pm to 3pm on alternate weeks (odd weeks preferably) on a monday. Some refreshments at about 230pm will be nice. I will give u full marks in the tutor evaluation exercise and nominate you for the best lecturer award. Let me know you opinion on this. Hear from you soon.

well well, some said FYP is a test of character, others said it is a test of endurance. For chemical engineering student however, it is really more of the former than the latter. Our project lasts only for a semester. So we will experience immense suffering for e next 6 to 7 months; unlike other departments. Theirs are, well, prolonged suffering with lesser intensity. so which one's better? i prefer the chem engine style.. sadistically motivating us constantly .. However, progress has been at sloth-like-pace, i am officially stuck.
Over lunch, my entire brain is still thinking about the project. It was so pre-occupied that i forgot to pay for the food. I just took it and walked off. It was only a while after i started eating that i realised i had forgotten to do something and went back to pay. The aunty said she was stunned for a while when i simply grab and go without paying hah. So, since i am stuck and the weather is so hot, i think i shd give my fish a bath.

Colonscopy
Same doctor, same operation room, same nurse, same porter, zero pathology found (as clean as a baby's colon). So irritable bowel syndrome it is. The scope was a breeze. The hard part though was the day before, the colon cleansing part. Now that all checks have been done, I think i really have to re-adjust my priorities. I guess i am human after all.

Nowadays men often feel that their lives, or private lives are made up of a series of traps. Vicious vicious traps. We sense that within our everyday world, there are troubles we cannot overcome, and in this feeling, we are often correct. What we, e ordinary men, are directly aware of and what we try to do are often bounded by the private orbits in which we reside. Our visions, powers and the societal norms that constantly bombard us are well, limited to the close-up scenes of our jobs, family ,neighborhood and society; In other milieux however, we are mere spectators.

How you wish you were like him? No? Someone who seems to defy most (if not all) of the societal norms that we were brought up to believe in here in Asia. It will take lotsa courage to do exactly what he does; no doubt there will be bungee cords pulling u back screaming at you "No!, you should work hard, save money and so on.." But how tight that strangle hold is on you will very much depends on how badly u want it or how sick of your life you currently are. thus e questions remain: just how determined are you in ur pursue of that one dream, that one truly unforgettable memory? and break free from all 'traps' and to become the envy of others.
So, when life gets you so down and you start tumbling down like a rock, turn yourself into one huge boulder, break the societal cord, do something that is truly meaningful and be away from all the disapproving voices just for once. The rewards can be amazing, the experience unbelievable and the best thing is: you arent a mere spectator anymore.

alright, i apologize for the stir that my previous post caused. 请多多包含. It wasnt meant to generalize things; it was written in the context of 'couples' (ok, dun start another round of bombardment), pardon me if i have not made it explicit enough. That said i understand that there are some erroneous statements, however, just take them with a pinch of salt k.
So.. FYP readings have started and i do not understand a thing that i am reading. E project title is: "Are PI/D Controllers Effective and Sufficient for Blood Glucose Control?". Its a computational based project, not experimental. Cant stand labs. It requires the use of Matlab and Simulink to solve numerous ordinary differential and partial differential equations which models the patient dynamics i.e. gastric emptying processes, renal threshold of glucose and the like. (quite a mouth full ya) There are of cos the controller parts too which will release the proper amount of insulin required after some computation which i will have to model so as to prevent hpyo and hyperglycemia. (not a clue). All the maths are coming back to haunt me, the 4th order Runge-Kutta method, 1st order Euler integration. i have forgotten everything about them too... great

So.. FYP readings have started and i do not understand a thing that i am reading. E project title is: "Are PI/D Controllers Effective and Sufficient for Blood Glucose Control?". Its a computational based project, not experimental. Cant stand labs. It requires the use of Matlab and Simulink to solve numerous ordinary differential and partial differential equations which models the patient dynamics i.e. gastric emptying processes, renal threshold of glucose and the like. (quite a mouth full ya) There are of cos the controller parts too which will release the proper amount of insulin required after some computation which i will have to model so as to prevent hpyo and hyperglycemia. (not a clue). All the maths are coming back to haunt me, the 4th order Runge-Kutta method, 1st order Euler integration. i have forgotten everything about them too... great

Men are direct, Women are indirect
When a women talks, sometimes or rather most of the time, she uses indirect speech. She tends to hint at what she wants or beats around the bush without going straight to the point. Indirect speech does have its perks, to me it serves to avoid confrontations or discord and seeks to preserve harmony. However, men lack the sensitivity to pick up the real meaning most of the time and that can cause lotsa frustrations for both parties. I can identify, at times, when the ladies are hinting at something, but i can never quite guess correctly what they really want. T
Just last month, my mom was telling us over dinner which singers she like and what songs are nice et cetera. Some days later, she went on to talk about the high quality music dished out from DVDs. I dunno if i did the right thing here but i went to burn about 10 discs for her. she looks happy though. It may look obvious now, but it was pretty hard to decipher then. Maybe that day i should have bought some TOTO, was probably very heng then. Also, last month, i do not know why but my mom got pissed off when i told her that i do not want to go on an overseas trip, i have forgotten about the details in e conversation but even my sister found it strange. I am confused and still do not understand what went wrong that day.
Last week, i was out with my friend and she asked me "would you like to drink some coffee?" I cant take coffee but told her "hey, y not?". i have learnt my lesson from a previous incident. when a women asked you if you wanted cofee, what she really meant was that she wanted some. (correct me if i am wrong here). So dont simply reply "No thanks, its okie. " and think how nice it was of her to ask.. you might just get some silent treatment later on

It pissed her off almost immediately and she starts to get unreasonable and accusing me of this and that. (I was so shocked and its like where did that come from?) I have a high tolerance for 小姐脾气 but that day i was pissed off too and replied "why not you write down on a piece of paper of all the questions that u wanna ask me so i can give u the perfect answers you want next time." You can roughly envisage what happened next. haha. However after a while, we both started to found the entire thing silly and simply laughed it off. But still, i aint got a clue.
Just last night, i was talking to a friend about soccer and told her that i will be going out to watch the euro finals later tonight. She asked me "where? with who?" Then i replied not sure with some friends of cos and her next reply was "HeHe~." Initially i though that was the end of the topic and wanan ask her something else, then it stucked me 'Ohh man, i am talking to a lady here' ..and asked her "y u wanna 跟来 is it" and her reply was "hah~ is tat ok?" ... 女人ah女人...
So when the girls ask you guys if u wanna do this or that, just ask them “你要吗?要就走咯”and do whatever they please. If they ask you to choose between two siutations (i.e. shoes, career path), ask them if they already have something in mind as most of the time they have already made a choice and only want a confirmation. Oh and shut up when they call or chat online to 发泄, just 很无奈的听着,把它当做 story telling time, i guess they simply needa let it out of their system. I am rather glad that i can be their 发泄 or 出气筒 (pun intended, haha, nah call me anytime.) In the end, i guess indirect speech is part of their genetic wiring and there is nothing guys can do. so just learn to deal with it. Lastly a friend of mine told me this, "女人是拿来爱的,不是用来了解的"。 但是,如果不了解,那how to 好好的爱呢?.

alright, sorry for the lack of updates.. i wont say i am really busy, but it has been a wild break. lots of meetings... with a few interesting characters appearing now and then... some of them really got on my nerves at times. Oh well... also, given the soccer matches in the last few weeks as well as work, panda eyes are slowly developing. The only recreations i had in the past few months are well, meet up with friends for mahjong, movies, some chilling out sessions as well as exercises. The same old things, nothing very exciting. My friends and i cancelled the backpacking trip around SEA once again due to the weather conditions.
Anyway, you think ur singlish is good? check this out... i really wonder if friends from other countries can even make sense of what the guy is talking about cos he is too good for an ang moh.

Hmmm...
Have u ever found yourself in a situation where things just seem too good to be true? In my life, when this situation occurs, it tends to be.. well.. too good to be true. I hope this time round, things will be different.
Anyway, my friends and i are pooling cash to start an 'investment fund', e initial sum will be less than 10k but more than 5k. you guys can visit Nustrades yahoo grp for comments and messages posted by us. I am using it as a platform to guide by friends into the world of investing and hopefully all of us can gain something outta it. Really hope that their opinions can help me see things from a different pair of glasses as i am already starting to see myself screening out some stocks just because of my previous encounters with stocks of a particular industry. Currently all the post are by me, if you find any debatable argument please let me know your opinion on that issue.

Sesame Street
Sesame street, Transformers, Care Bear & Capitan Planet are just some of the tv show that i watch when i was young. Good, clean and innocent fun. Some even teaches you what is righteousness. Kids nowadays are watching what, a yellow-coloured talking sponge, happy tree friends, south park and other twisted shows which i may not even know. These shows are thrash man.
Memories
Memories are heart wrenching; if they are about happy things, it makes you wonder why those times didn't last. Well, if they are about sad things, of course they will make you miserable when you think of them. In short, they can be bitter sweet at times. Now, why cant we make all memories splendid then?

ACH
a mail i received from a fellow chemical engineering student began with this "Hey ACH (pronounced as A followed by C and H, not Arch)... " i replied to her immediately, how do u know that you can address me as such? Still waiting for her reply though. I never recall telling her ppl call me ACH at times.
This 'nick' started all the way back when i was in secondary 2. I always like to day dream during class you see... it was the first week of school and i was caught day dreaming by my english teacher. She asked for my name, and my dear friend simply replied. "Call him ACH !!" Ever since then, friends in JC, Uni and even the army still call me by that name every once in a while. Its weird how it spread.. i din do it intentionally by telling them oh you can call me ACH, more often than not it was they whom overheard my sec sch friends calling me that; and they simply followed suit...if u were in AJC in 2001 to 2002 or even 2003, u might have seen the word ACH scribbled all over the lecture halls' and tutorial rooms' tables using correction fluid, it wasn't written by me, it was by my class mate. He wrote so many ACH here there everywhere that my sec school's classmates always ask me if i am zhi lian. Well well.. anyway, my dad is ACH too...and yes you guys can call me ACH if you want to, i will respond.
you know some American companies like Hewlett Packard (HP), JP Morgan as well as Ben and Jerry's are all started using their founders' name? Maybe i should start a company call ACH Pte Ltd and see how far it goes. It's main business will be erm... name branding and viral marketing... hahah..

This holiday, there are so many things that needs to be done and one of my NTU friend is in China, so that makes progress for the NTU project much slower than expected. The tuition thingie is giving me lotsa lotsa headache, i think it shd be scraped totally. You know at times when u r in business school and you encounter some really simple MCQ or structured question, and you start to think to yourself "what crap, these are so easy and obvious!" However, these so called simple questions are simple because most of the real life variables have been fixed for you. If those variables werent fixed, it can be turned into one humogous essay question worth 70 over marks. (akin to one huge irritating ulcer formed by the combinations of 2 to 3 smaller ones that are so close to each other. Then when u accidently bite onto it it bleeds like hell and for hours non stop and u keep drinking, tasting your own blood with every mouthful of saliva that you swallowed.. oh sorry i've digressed) The simplest thing can turn out to be the most nagging of issues. Things such as payments, for our NTU case, turns out to be the most irritating part and marketing turns out to be the easiest and cheapest. Shouldnt it be the other way round as stated in the books? damn...
Needa meet up with some friends this holiday, especially the chemical engineers, it has been a awhile. Just to chill, play mahjong, bbq or inline skate, whatever lar as long as can see those familar faces again. i wont be doing any internship nor going overseas this holiday just stay in tiny Singapore (rejected the uni of alberta summer programme as well as the Korea's one after being accepted, i think i will be blacklisted by the IRO soon).
Anyway, light house family are one of my favourite group of all time (their discs are with my sec sch friend and i have forgotten whom i have lent it to, darn) followed by wet wet wet and goo goo dolls etc. You just cant find this sort of music these days. i will set up another blog for investment and stocks discussion (if time permits). Wonder if anyone will take them seriously or even read them in the first place. Oh well.. i will inform you guys once it it up... tc all.

Open book exam today, so i brought in all the notes, tutorial questions and solutions, printed textbook materials and past year examinations paper. Imagine the amt of papers that i had with me. As i was flipping here there everywhere searching for some details in my notes i sort of misplaced my script along with the stack of papers. It got lost totally in the pile of notes. li hai ba. took me more than 5 minutes to recover it. damn......

alright, i have finished 4 papers, so far so good. 2 more to go... next sat will be my last paper.. thursday will be my next paper, 3 days to study for it..i am already losing momentum...
Technical elective module: thank god the prof din wanna kill us,
Biz law: Under product liability another product exploded, just like in previous years
Finance: 2 long questions were repeated from last year (60marks) just that he changed something. MCQ was really tricky.
Operation Management: they said it will be hard and it was disgusting...
last paper is on the 10th of May, ..Anyway, its always good to ask questions during the examinations cos some profs will just give u the answers unknowingly. that happened during OM, there was a variable missing and i cant proceed unless without that figure... so i raised my hand and asked what is going on, the prof replies, u have to find the variable yourself. and i was like 'thanks a lot man!!'... when i was in year 2 , doing fluid mechanics, i was stuck at a particular question so i ask the prof too, immediately he drew me the diagram which turns out to be the answer itself... so just ask if u r unsure, of cos some will be assholic and reply to u things like 'you shd know this' etc.. still.. there is a chance that the answers will be given just like that, sometimes 'computer hang' during test u see, need to reboot abit...hah.. well well back to books.. some soft rock music..

well, there are many contributing factors as to why i am still single so much so that it precludes a comprehensive discussion. Let's just say that i have always met the right person at the wrong time and erm at times the converse is true as well. I am can kinda disillusioned by it as well after an incident with a girl. Oh well, its not at the top of my agenda at the moment, the most important thing now is to get my health back completely, and oh i am working on two other possible venture at the moment, one with friends in NTU and another has got to do with tuition (not a tuition agency though) the details of which i will release if it turns out to be workable if not, then u wont hear about it i guess. Jiawei and Junyong why are u guys in France?..if not we can work together..executions for this two tasks are very important and i need both your brains... jiawei u always ask me to jio you if got any investment opportunities, but u r in france.... - -" both of you, drop the PSC/Eiffel Scholarship and come back... we can create something interesting and maybe huge here haha..like real

ppl have always asked me from time to time why i work so hard. i have answered it countless of times and find some of them pretty frustrating. The answer to it is simple really, I wanna retire early and do the things i really like, thats all. However, it got to a point where it prompted me to think about it thoroughly. Have i gone overboard this time round? With that question in mind, i went to talk to my sister... she, like she has always been, is very good at giving advices. she told me that perhaps i have really over worked to the point that it is considered scary to some ppl. I think perhaps i really had.. so i guess i will be adding another item to the list of goals that i set for myself this year. She wanna me to bet with her for 100 bucks that i will change... and i have accepted that, i hear her and knows where she is coming from.

A mathematical parody of Fergie's Fergalicious
i think i am a geek i find this entertaining. Anyway, design 2 is over..... excellent. the last few days were not spent on formulas to compute brust radius etc but rather on photoshopping our work to get the desired results...from chem engineers to con men... hah...
Anyway, i am not very up to date with chinese songs, the last time i actually listened to a chinese radio station on a consistent basis was when i am 13. i am currently sourcing for more gems from the chinese music industry as i found that there are in fact tonnes of them (old and new alike, faye wong has got a dozen of them)... personally i feel that this is a nice song... what do u think...

Alright, the plant's capital cost is close to 300million. Not too bad, i guess my friend and i dont have a feel for numbers (especially for plant's cost). Hydrogen plant powered by coal instead of natural gas has capital costs of around USD$400-500 million.
Today's 2 presentation went pretty well i think, managed to capture their attention. The chinese students btw are so eager to learn that they dun even mind asking me, someone with have zero qualifications, about investing. felt so weird, .. hope to pass at least CFA level 1 before i graduate, if can pass level 2 that would definitely be better. But if what i said can help guide them into the world of investing, i will really wont mind spending time telling them what i know as long as they are eager to learn.... Oh well, going back to the chinese students, only the investing and trading part i can be more of a help to them actually.... their eagerness to learn is really astonishing, Singaporeans are a rather apathetic lot, these Chinese Nationals are not afraid to ask and seek help on matters that they are weak at. One of them got a place to read medicine at peking U but yet gave up that opportunity to come over to singapore to study, (i think she is crazy, though on e other hand it could turn out to be an excellent choice for her since she is very focused now on what she really wants, i like ppl who knows what they want in life). so if Singaporeans dun buck up, it will be hard for us to compete with them locally or internationally.

Design 2
Design 2 , i think is the worst module that i have ever taken, very time consuming. and my team, haiz.. they are all smart ppl but the things they do are er.. rather below par.
First reactor: 30% conversion. i throw into a beaker can get more % conversion lo
Furnace: It requires a forced draft fan. The total utility for it is amazingly low, 40kW. switch on air conditioner already dunno how many watts liao... that forced draft fan which is suppose to suck contents upwards against gravity requires only 40kW. If only i can patent that fan. Many many other mistakes were discovered too which shouldnt have occur given their intelligence level. Hwa Chong JC Alumni c'mon....you guys can definitely produce much better work than this
Our total capital cost was estimated to amount 107million (expected to grow further after including waste water treatment), operating cost is at close to 25million per year. Li hai. At home in biz school..engineering? huh? whats that..
This semester has been rather fun, meeting lotsa new ppl in business and giving out name cards, especially to those in the CFA interest group and the other Beta Gamma Sigma members. Anyway, the students in biz are generally much more ambitious and street smart than the engineering students and they have rather good presentation skills, moreover, their resumes are pretty decent too. Also, not only do they have dreams to become entrepreneurs, some are already doing it for real, and the effort they put into the market research ah, amazing man. I have expressed interest in some of their plans and one is already sending me updates every now and then on his progress. His plan sounds really feasible to me, it is quite li hai of him to think of it in the first place actually. At biz school, i feel so at home. Oh well, back to design 2 ...

Alright, i have been posted to SNSR, RATC IHL. I have zero idea what it was until a friend told me what it stands for, he once worked in CMPB. Its reservist armour training centre, institute of higher learning. SNSR he dunno what it is too. Its for personnels that went on to well, IHL after they ORD... once armour always armour.... no more 4th Singapore Armour Brigade (4SAB) though...

A friend of mine sent me this clip, this is the closest i can get to the real stuff...its a hokkien version though, but still nice.... i will pay to get hold of the chinese version of this song... been looking for it for ages..
if you were wondering why i like this song so much, well, firstly a lot of ppl likes 双人相梦 too => its nice lar. If i remembered correctly, i woke up in the middle of the night when i was in sec sch and this song was playing on the radio. immediately, i got up and try to write down its lyrics (as best as i could) so that i can ask my friends in school the next day about this particular song. well, with my fei chang li hai de chinese, no one could tell what the song is. After a while, i forgot its lyrics and melody totally, so i cant even ask anyone a thing about it. It was only last year that i accidently heard it on my sis's ipod, it was great to hear it again after so many years, big mistake not to have extracted it out. Another song call 盐 by 彭学斌 is a great song too, i have that song in wma format if you want just msn me. Anyway, if you like hardcore stuff well go listen to Greenday's Jesus Of Suburbia, 9min of rock... interesting stuff some of you might find it irritating though...

Pi Day & Yanni
14th of march is Pi Day because 3-14 is analogous to 3.14 thats how they write their dates in the west i guess. Heard that students in e maths department in Canada got free pie on that day itself. Investments and trades
the building of my portfolio is now almost completed except for a few more real estate investment trusts, am currently looking at Parkway REIT and Mapletree Log REIT at the moment. am taking a rather cautious approach now and have added position to my existing holdin in Thai Beverage and Singpost as they are both defensive in nature. Still value-cost-averaging my index fund as well. Singapore long term bond and T-bills are paying really low interest about 3% and 1.35% respectively, hello, inflation leh.. REITs tends to fall when inflation hits as the risk free return are now expected to be higher so to reach market equilibrium (market forces) they have to fall in price else no one will buy them. (Ex. If it pays 6% dividend yield with inflation at 1%, thats alright, but if it pays 6% yield and inflation is 5%, thats not right, prices will be driven down to take into consideration the increase in risk free rate)
oh well, 3 weeks ago, my hand was rather itchy.. so i went to trade the US market with my 'speculative' money... (i dun believe in trading actually after my initial experience with it, it only makes the brokerage firms richer through the commission, read the book titled "Where is the customer's yacth" and u will understand what i mean)... the money was placed in an account called option express , away from my investment account (POEMS) so that i wont do silly things to my long term investments.
anyway here is the trade.. it kinda suck actually .. bought it as the RSI is low and thought that it will break out of the channel.
the picture is rather small, maybe it will be bigger if you click on it, well, i shorted the US market S&P 500 (meaning i want the market to plunge) by buying an Shorting Exchange Traded Fund (ETF). i entered at 64.8 USD with an exchange rate of 1.41. It plunge to 60 plus due to the recovery over the week. no need to cut lost still though, last firday it shot back to 63.4 after the DOW fell 200 over points. market crash ba pls.. then i can value-cost better, buy discounted shares as well as profit from this trade.

Exactly a week ago, a crane near NUS business school came crashing down killing 3 workers. Students in LT16 and the nearby bus stop couldnt believe how lucky they were to survive when they witnessed the aftermath of the incident.
Reports the next few mornings then revealed how luck wasn't what saved the students in the LT. A man who should be named a hero did. As the crane started to lose its balance at the site, it came crashing down towards LT16. The 47 year old Singaporean operator responded immediately and swerved the machine away from the building saving hundreds of young lives. I was in that LT.
So pls donate generously to the victims' families...

A 89 year-old grandma filed her nomination paper last sunday to contest a Kuala Terengganu parliamentary seat. Maimum Yusof, who has 19 great grand children, was seen in recent days riding around on her bike cavassing for support. She had so far spent more than RM10,000 to register as a candidate and will mobilise more cash and resources in her campaign preparations. You De Mei De (er4) ...
My grandma is 72 this year. She is learning english. Li hai ba. Its funny though when she tries to use them. "I am on the way" she can pronounced as "I am under wear"
Anyway, just found out today that my friend in SIM is currently working as a security guard. His monthly pay is about 1.5k, he said he just go there to sleep from 10pm to 6am every weekday, so why not earn some money while he sleeps. like that also can. hahaa. the things ppl do to earn some cash ^^ He teaches tuition and works part-time during the day as well.. so his monthly intake is i guess more than 2.7-3k.
Working as a security guard in singapore aint a bad job you know (when you are semi-retired and cant get elected as a director of some coy haha). See you can just sit there whole day day dream or just read some books. Toto books (20 years series), investment books or just any other book .. maybe plus one radio+mosquito coil+water+food+arm chair+wet tissue+toothbrush+toothpaste+handphone+laptop for trading+a dog.. then you are all set to enjoy while the dog works and you get paid. See you can take your shoes and socks off and just relax when everyone else is gone the entire complex is yours. cool. KIV for now.

汉语拼音方案
汉语拼音 is celebrating its 50 years old birthday this year. I think is a really important tool to learn when you want to communicate with a chinese. See my friend has a rather weird name, his name is Rude. Well not Rude as in rude but Ru De. When he was in America, the Americans and the American-Chinese keep pronouncing his name as simply rude. He had a hard time convincing them that it is Ru De instead of Rude.

cny come and go just like that..
After all the gambling, interrogation during chu 1 2 and 3, it is time to chill abit. This year's cny is very happening as compared to the previous 3 years, which is good. The sad thing though is that i got to watch carefully what i put inside my mouth. Nothing spicy, nothing acidic in nature, no caffine, no oily fried stuffs (no ba kwa). only ate food that are qing dan,they are really hard to find though. it is pure sufferance i tell you...yen ba ba de kan zhe relatives gobble down my favourite ba kwa.....
Well back to work. I am in charge of doing heat integration for the design of a hydrogen plant. There are 7 units in total and each of us are required to write about 30-40 pages of report on the unit design. After which, we will need to do other things like cost analysis, safety health and environment, regulation issues, control systems, pipings et cetera. Past year reports are all around 350-400 pages..darn.. another thing is, the 6 of them are designing only for a single unit. however for me,i need to design a lot of heat exchangers each varying in design. also i cant do anything much until they have all finished designing their own units and then integrate them all together.
This is how a student sees a heat exchanger...

some looks like a torpedo...
some looks like a space shuttle...
It can cost millions just to build one exchanger so as to save on utilities as you are transferring heat from a stream that needs to be cooled to another stream that needs to be heated without any external load. if i design that space shuttle or torpedo-like heat exchanger out ah, i will get murdered...

You De Mei De...
My stomach hasnt felt this good for eons. Seriously, i have forgotten the 'normal' feeling that one should feel about meals. It has never been an enjoyment to munch on something for the past 3 months or so, slowly though , i am beginning to have cravings. The bill just came for the gastroscope..guess how much it costs? gastroscope plus half-a-day B1 ward along with ac and meals...... it's only $161.. i really have no idea why am i subsidied so much, my grandma underwent the similar thing at SGH for $300+, shouldnt an elderly get more subsidy? hmm.. weird ... also, consultation alone costs $40+, but day surgery cost $161.. what gives? i was recommended to go to CGH by my sis bf, who is doing his housemanship there. He said that the waiting list is really short relatively speaking and that there are fewer patients there as compared to TTSH and SGH.... indeed, it is a world apart as compared to TTSH and SGH.
Anway... my finance tutor is kinda qualified, he is a CFA and a CPA .. hell...

Gastroscopy, i slept right through it...
i said Hi to my stomach for the first time in 23 years, it's cute and pink in colour, with some tiny dots (inflammation) that arent suppose to be there. It turns out that i have Gastrities, nothing too serious, but will have to watch my diet and not to overkill myself from now on (less hectic lifestyle) before it turns more severe. Looking back i wonder why they perform all the other tests on me when one scope can do it. Did blood test, stool test, thyroid/pancreas/gall bladder/liver function test, ECG(heart wave tracing) and some CT scans and X-rays.... for what i am still not too sure, at least all turns out normal. Seen 7 doctors in jan'08 great start to the new year, tai li hai le, hope today's one is the last. Think i dun have to do these tests for the next few years already or so i hope. If i sign up for the NUH health screen premium package, i think i will covered like 60% of my entire body already. Looking at the smile on my mum's face when she found out that it was nothing serious felt really good. Oh well, probably have to cut myself some slack from now on... stop tuitioning, stop stock picking just use dollar/value cost average with index funds, stop mahjong-ing hmmm (cos keep losing money and alcohols are no good for my stomach) .. be a sleeping partner instead and dun read too far ahead of the lectures...

I can't say that I'm in a state of despondency but it has been a while since I felt really happy. Part of it has got to do with my tummy, a lot of wind inside. But the wind tend to decrease a lot once i eat something but i have no appetite so gotta force the food down...called a couple of hospital today to check for their earliest appointment date to see a gastro specialist. SGH is filled till july. earlist appt for TTSH is in april. NUH is in may. So the current appointment i have is still the earlist, CGH in feburary. hmm .. come to think of it,i have forgotten to call CGH to see if they have got any patients that have cancel their appt or not. Will give AH a miss though after having my knee and ankle treatment there. Private hospitals are outta the question, too expensive. Another reason for my current state is, well, in school i have like no friends. Only 1 or 2 really close ones are around, rest are mere acquaintances. Damn.
Anyway, i think i have a common face. Quite a no. of ppl have ask me questions like, "Hey i think i have seen u b4." ," are from blah blah blah" or " were you in this school? " This sort of thing. I was in army back then and some officers came to me and told me, "I know your father" then walked away. (what the hell..) In BMT, a bunkmate asked me if i was from XXX primary school. Last semester's lab assistant ask me a lot of personal question during a particular session only to reveal that she was checking if i was her long lost nephew. When i was helping out in engine o week, a fellow helper came up and ask me if i do sailing on a regular basis as she felt that she has seen me b4. Last week i was waiting for a buyer of my book in engine canteen and a friend introduced 2 friends to me, one of them ask me if i was in the medic corps during army, he seem to have seen me somewhere b4 he says. In JC, when i was in J2.. one J1 girl came up and ask if i was in from RV previously. Also, in J2, a friend told me that there is a guy whom looks just like me in J1. Friends of my friends told my friends that they seemed to have seen me before after they saw me talking to my friends whom are their friends as well (get it?) (this had happened a few times) zzz. Guys whom said that they have saw me b4 might indeed have becasue i was a guardroom specalist. So anyone entering or leaving my camp will bound to see me when i check their camp passes. If that is not the case, i think i needa start differentiating myself from the rest of the equally common-faced guys. . grow a beard and shave off my eye brows?
